About Cafe Berlin

Cafe Berlin was born in 1995, the heart's child of Aki von Mende, a local German-American restauranteur.

Originally meant to simply fulfill a deep need within the downtown market for the rich, traditional German cuisine, Aki saw the restaurant rise to become a staple and a favorite on the list of Denverites and Coloradans across the board.

Thanks to the dedication of Aki and others such as Sandra Boog and Marlene Garrett, traditional German food has found a permanent home in Denver.

In 1998, Sandra and Marlene took over the reins from Aki, adding a softer, feminine touch to operations as well as decor. Since then, what began as a sure winner for all who love the heartier side of European fare has slowly, steadily risen to become a "must" stop for everyone with Denver on their itinerary, drawing a crowd from in-state to as far away as German cuisine meccas such as Chicago and Milwaukee. Whether it's the sweet reminiscence of the cabbage rolls your mother made you as a child or that ever satisfying search for the perfect soul-inspired yet tastefully old-world Jäger-schnitzel, Cafe Berlin is Denver's answer to great food, the friendliest service and gemütlichkeit.

One of the regular customers said it best: Eating at Cafe Berlin is like coming home.
